About Us
We've been working in graphic design since 1992, although our interest in language and communications, and love of books in general, goes back to childhood. Our business grew out of our experiences working in the industry, first for print service bureaus, and later for magazine and book publishers.
After many years in the middle of the East Coast hubbub, we chose to relocate to the Mountains and Lakes region of Western Maine. What you see at the top of our web page is what we see when we look out the window. No wonder we're always in a good mood when you call us! High-speed internet allows us to easily work with clients all over the country, and, we're able to reflect the lower cost of living here in our competitive pricing. |
What people say about working with us... |
"As the photographer Robert Adams said, he would rather be out taking pictures than in the dark room developing them, so I would rather be writing poems than spending my time turning them into a book. Therefore, finding someone that I can, with complete peace of mind, hand my manuscript over to to do so for me is of the utmost importance. Höhne-Werner Design is that someone. From proof-reading to editing to layout to cover design to overseeing the actual printing or digitalization of it, their professionalism and craftsmanship, at every step of the process, is excellent—as is, as I can testify to after working with them for over ten years, their ability to learn and anticipate the individual style and wants of their client, and is why I never consider entrusting my work to anyone else.”
— Paul Bussan, author of A Rage Of Intelligence, This Is Me, Not Robert Creeley, Speaking and Towards A New Piety "Your work on the Admiral Vernon book has been exemplary. Nobody knows better than you that the subject matter of the book is complex, added to which it required the blending of hundreds of images from different sources and in different formats. You tackled the daunting task given you in a thoroughly professional manner: you were unfailingly cheerful, punctual and, where necessary, inquisitive. Of equal importance, you added great value to the aesthetic dimensions of the project: the layout, the mixture of fonts and a truly sublime dust jacket. Clearly, you bonded with the subject matter to achieve a superior result. Response to the book from all elements of my constituency has been heart warming, for which, my abiding gratitude." —John W. Adams, author Medallic Portraits of Admiral Vernon (Publisher: Kolbe & Fanning) "From the start both Michael and Angela made the whole experience far easier than expected for a rank newcomer in the self-publishing world. Their expertise not only in terms of design, but also in finding a printer, proved invaluable in bringing a project that was over a decade in the making to an end product that exceeded all of my hopes and expectations. If you ever are in need of book designers who are both professional and understanding, Michael and Angela at Höhne-Werner Design are the people you need to contact. I cannot say enough about what a pleasure they made the whole experience." —Nick Leadley, Editor/Photographer, Gavia: Tales From Loon Country “Thanks again for your skillful, thorough, and overall excellent work -- it was a pleasure working with you.” —George Smith and Louise Schoonover Smith, Frank E. Schoonover Foundation, Frank E. Schoonover Catalogue Raisonné (Publisher: Oak Knoll Press) “The finest printing can only come from a quality design and attention to detail. Buffalo’s Bicycles was the gold award winner in a very competitive category. We appreciate the opportunity to produce this product and congratulate you on your award-winning design.” —Frederick P. Kurtz, Boncraft/Holling Printing Group, Buffalo's Bicycles (Publisher: Pedaling History Museum) “…the book is beautiful! Both its appearance and content make it a book everyone can be proud of. You did a great job with the design and typesetting, but more than that, I appreciate your willingness to adjust your schedule to accommodate the deadlines of the project.” —Constance J. Cooper, New Castle Historical Society, author 350 Years of New Castle (Publisher: Cedar Tree Press) |
